Pitting plums made easy
If you’re having trouble pitting plums, you’re not alone. The sweet fruits are strongly related to their core and for this reason, it often happens that they are crushed. The following tips will help you get your harvest quickly and safely:
- Plum pitter: The easiest way to pit plums quickly and effectively is to use a plum pitter. This utensil is available for around 10 euros and is extremely useful. You simply place the plum in the small bowl, press down with the stoner and you have seedless fruit. Of course, when choosing a suitable stoner, you should pay attention to the quality.
- Knife: The second method uses a knife. Short paring knives are best suited for this, as they can easily be carried in one hand. Knives that are too large can easily slip off the shell and injure you.
- When: Prunes are best pitted when they are ripe but not overripe. Make sure that the fruit cannot be easily crushed in your hand and that you can grip it firmly. Then it will be easier to core them with a knife.
- Preparation: Wash and dry the plums. As a result, the surface of the fruit is no longer so slippery, which makes pitting easier.
- Now take the plum in your hand. Position the knife at the top of the fruit and cut along the indentation all the way around in one go.
- Now twist the two cut halves until they come loose and the core falls out or can be removed.
- If the stone is still a bit stuck, loosen it with the knife. You can then enjoy your freshly pitted plums.
