Waffles with a twist, not just a children’s favorite!
Melt butter or margarine on the stovetop or in the microwave and let cool. Separate the eggs, set aside the egg yolks, and beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Don’t grate the cheese too coarsely. Cut the salami or ham into very small cubes. Sift the flour and baking powder into a mixing bowl. Add the salt, sugar, oregano, pepper, butter, milk, and egg yolks and mix thoroughly in a food processor or with a hand mixer until a smooth batter forms. Briefly stir in the grated cheese and salami/ham pieces. Finally, gently but thoroughly fold the beaten egg whites into the batter with a spoon, ensuring the foam doesn’t break up. Oil and preheat the waffle iron and bake the pizza waffles until the desired degree of browning is reached. These quantities are sufficient for 10 waffles. Note: These pizza waffles are a hit at children’s birthday parties, but also at adult parties, for breakfast, or as a snack between meals. They’re also ideal to take with you on the go or to kindergarten, school, or the office.
