Pointed Cabbage, Braised Very Briefly …

The perfect pointed cabbage, braised very briefly … recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

  • 1 small head Cabbage
  • 1 small Onion
  • 1 small Extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Caraway seed
  • 1 half a teaspoon Black pepper from the mill
  • 2 tablespoon Balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoon Water
  • 3 tablespoon Extra virgin olive oil
  • 3 tablespoon Black pepper from the mill
  • Chilli flakes
  1. Divide the pointed cabbage into quarters, then cut into strips; Dice the onion … and that was the preparations.
  2. In a large saucepan, fry the onion cubes in a tablespoon of oil, then add the pointed cabbage strips and all the other ingredients (sugar, salt, caraway seeds, pepper, vinegar and water), mix everything well and cover with the lid over a mild heat for about 5 Simmer for up to 6 minutes.
  3. Then remove the lid, increase the heat and continue cooking, stirring repeatedly, until all the liquid has boiled off at the bottom. Now turn off the stove and fold in three tablespoons of oil. Season well with pepper and chilli flakes and serve hot as a vegetable. Today we had braised ox cheeks and dumplings with it.
  4. Note 4: these pointed cabbage vegetables are also (cold) a delicious salad that we have already enjoyed for barbecues, at picnics or from the salad buffet.
