Ingredients for 4 servings:
- 500 g fish fillet(s) (herring fillets)
- 125 ml sour cream
- 1 onion(s)
- 1 apple
- Salt
- Sugar
- possibly lemon juice

Part of the Polish Christmas meal
Pat the herring fillets dry with a kitchen towel. Chop them into small pieces to taste (it’s not necessary!) and place them in a bowl. Peel and coarsely grate the apple. Peel and finely dice the onions. Mix both with the sour cream. Season with salt, sugar, and lemon juice. Mix the herring pieces well with the sauce. Let it sit for a while. My Polish family eats this herring salad at Christmas with potatoes, clear beetroot soup, mushroom sauce, fried fish, sauerkraut salad, and bread.
