Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 250 g poppy seeds, ground
  • 1 liter of milk
  • 200 g sugar
  • 70 g raisins
  • 70 g almond flakes
  • 500 g rolls or white bread

Instructions

Working time approx. 25 minutes; Rest time approx. 2 hours; Cooking/baking time approx. 5 minutes; Total time approx. 2 hours 30 minutes

Poppy seed kleßla (Silesian Christmas dish)

Boil the poppy seeds in 1/2 liter of milk with 100g of sugar, then add the raisins. Cover with a tea towel and let it swell for 15 minutes. Then add the almonds. Cut the rolls or bread into 4cm-thick slices. Mix the remaining milk well with the sugar. Soak the bread in it. Now alternate the bread slices with the swollen poppy seeds in a glass bowl. Finally, sprinkle on the almond flakes. Chill thoroughly in the refrigerator. Serve with a glass of mulled wine.
