Potato and Matjes Salad

The perfect potato and matjes salad recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

  • 400 g Herring fillets
  • 1 size Onion
  • 1 Apples red
  • 3 Gherkins pickles
  • 800 g Jacket potatoes
  • 0,5 bunch Spring onions
  • 200 g Sour cream
  • 200 ml Buttermilk
  • 1 tbsp Cucumber water
  • Salt and pepper
  • Pick salad
  1. Peel the onion, halve and cut into fine strips. Wash the apples, halve and remove the core. Quarter the apples and cut thin wedges. Cut the cornichons into thin slices. Peel the potatoes and cut into thin slices Cut cm thick pieces. Wash and clean the spring onions and cut into fine rings. Mix all prepared salad ingredients in a large bowl.
  2. Mix the sour cream with the buttermilk and a little cucumber water, season with pepper and a little salt. Carefully mix the dressing with the salad in the bowl. Arrange the potato and matjes salad on plates and serve garnished with a few lettuce leaves.
