Potato casserole with apples and bacon

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 700 g potatoes, waxy
  • 200 g cheese (Gouda), medium-aged
  • 450 g apples (e.g. Gala)
  • 100 g bacon, streaky, smoked
  • 400 ml cream
  • 4 eggs
  • some salt and pepper from the mill
  • some sweet paprika powder
  • some nutmeg, freshly grated
  • 30 g butter or margarine
  • Fat for the mold

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Peel and wash the potatoes and cut into wedges. Cook in salted water for about 10 minutes. Cut the cheese into sticks. Peel, core, and slice the apples. Dice the bacon and fry until crispy. Preheat oven to 200°C. Layer the potatoes, apples, and bacon in a greased dish. Whisk together the eggs, salt, pepper, paprika, and nutmeg. Pour over the dish. Sprinkle with cheese. Sprinkle with butter or margarine. Bake covered for about 60 minutes, then uncovered for about 15 minutes.
