Potato tapa with spicy sauce

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 400 g potatoes
  • 2 small onions
  • 400 g tomatoes
  • 6 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tsp tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 3 tbsp Sherry, dry
  • 1 chili pepper(s), red, fresh
  • Salt
  • pepper
  • Cayenne pepper

Working time approx. 40 minutes; Total time approx. 40 minutes

Bravas potatoes

Finely chop the onions and sauté in 4 tablespoons of heated oil until translucent. Finely chop the tomatoes and add to the onions along with the tomato puree, sherry, and whole chili pepper. Simmer uncovered for about 15 minutes, stirring constantly, until a thick paste forms. Season with salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper. Peel the potatoes or wash them thoroughly with the skin on and cut into small cubes. Fry the potato cubes in the remaining oil for about 5 minutes, then fry over low heat for a further 15 minutes, turning carefully frequently. Add the potatoes to the sauce and heat briefly again, stirring in the lemon juice. Tastes good hot or cold and is suitable as a starter or as a side dish to pan-fried dishes.
