Potatoes "Nepalese style"

Spread the love

Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 2 handfuls of potatoes
  • some oil
  • some cumin
  • some salt
  • e.g. turmeric

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Fried potatoes with cumin

Cut the raw potatoes into small sticks. 1 heaped handful of potatoes makes about one serving. Cover the bottom of the pan with oil and heat until hot. Add the potatoes to the pan and toss to coat them. If desired, you can also add turmeric to the oil; this gives them a lovely, vibrant yellow color, but it’s not necessary for flavor. Lightly cover the pan so the potatoes can cook. Reduce the heat slightly. This takes about 15-20 minutes, tossing occasionally. When the potatoes are almost done, sprinkle a good pinch of salt over them. Sprinkle the cumin seeds over the potatoes as well, about 1 tablespoon for 2 servings. Finally, remove the lid, toss the potatoes again, and fry until crispy.
