Prepare bulgur properly – that’s how it works
To properly prepare bulgur, you don’t need much. Besides the bulgur, all you need is water and salt. That’s how it works:
- Put the desired amount of bulgur in a saucepan. For a vegetable pan with bulgur you need about 80 grams per person. If you only use the bulgur as a side dish, 50 grams is enough. Use a cup to measure the volume of the bulgur.
- Bring twice the amount of water to a boil in a saucepan or kettle. If you have one cup of bulgur, you need two cups of water.
- Pour the boiling water over the bulgur and add a pinch of salt. Alternatively, you can soak the bulgur in broth.
- Now let the bulgur soak for a while. Fine-grain bulgur is ready in 10 minutes, while coarse and medium-grain bulgur takes about 15 to 25 minutes to swell.
- Stir the bulgur from time to time so it’s fluffy and doesn’t stick together.
- After swelling, pour off any remaining liquid and loosen the bulgur again with a fork. Finished.
