Prepare Bulgur Properly – That’s How It Works

Prepare bulgur properly – that’s how it works

To properly prepare bulgur, you don’t need much. Besides the bulgur, all you need is water and salt. That’s how it works:

  1. Put the desired amount of bulgur in a saucepan. For a vegetable pan with bulgur you need about 80 grams per person. If you only use the bulgur as a side dish, 50 grams is enough. Use a cup to measure the volume of the bulgur.
  2. Bring twice the amount of water to a boil in a saucepan or kettle. If you have one cup of bulgur, you need two cups of water.
  3. Pour the boiling water over the bulgur and add a pinch of salt. Alternatively, you can soak the bulgur in broth.
  4. Now let the bulgur soak for a while. Fine-grain bulgur is ready in 10 minutes, while coarse and medium-grain bulgur takes about 15 to 25 minutes to swell.
  5. Stir the bulgur from time to time so it’s fluffy and doesn’t stick together.
  6. After swelling, pour off any remaining liquid and loosen the bulgur again with a fork. Finished.
