Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 500 g flour
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 packet of dry yeast
  • 60 g butter
  • 50 ml milk
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 80 g butter
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 250 ml milk
  • 1 packet of vanilla pudding powder
  • 500 ml milk
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 250 ml milk
  • 100 g dark chocolate
  • 20 g chopped pistachios for sprinkling

Instructions

Working time approx. 40 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 hour; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 2 hours 10 minutes

Filling: To prepare the filling, cook a pudding according to the package instructions and let it cool. Steamed dumplings: Combine flour, dry yeast, sugar, and salt in a bowl. Heat the milk and melt the butter. Add the milk and butter to the flour mixture. Stir everything into a smooth dough. Cover the dough with a tea towel and let it rise in a warm place until it has doubled in size. Shape the dough into balls, “roll” them (about the size of a large tennis ball), and then fill them with the vanilla pudding using a pastry bag. Cover the filled steamed dumplings with the tea towel and let them rise for another 15 minutes. Steaming: Heat the sugar, milk, and butter in a saucepan. Place the steamed dumplings in the pan and cover with a lid. Steam the steamed dumplings over indirect heat at 160°C (320°F) for about 30 minutes. Chocolate sauce: Heat the milk in a saucepan and melt the chocolate in it. Serving instructions: Lift the steamed dumpling from the pot and place it on a plate. Drizzle with chocolate sauce, if desired, and sprinkle with chopped pistachios.
