simple, quick, delicious, vegetarian

Preheat the oven to 160 degrees Celsius (top and bottom heat) and lightly toast the sesame seeds on a baking sheet on the middle rack. In the meantime, chop the dates and walnuts, pitting them first if necessary, and set aside. In a bowl, knead all ingredients except the dates, walnuts, and sesame seeds into a smooth dough. Then knead in the dates, walnuts, and toasted sesame seeds. Divide the dough into about eight equal portions and shape them into balls. Mine were about the size of a golf ball. Spread the balls evenly on a baking sheet and flatten slightly. Place the sheet in the oven and wait about 25 minutes, until the rolls are golden brown. If you don’t want the rolls too crispy on the outside, add a bowl of water to the oven. These quark rolls are delicious warm with butter and a pinch of salt. They’re ideal for a nice breakfast or as a gift. Note: I used about half a handful each of walnuts and dates, and a tablespoon of sesame seeds. Depending on your preferences, you can of course vary the amounts or use completely different ingredients, such as desiccated coconut, raisins, and much more.
