Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 5 tbsp oil
  • 250 ml water
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 150 g flour
  • 3 eggs
  • e.g. raisins or apples
  • Powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar for sprinkling
  • 2 kg oil or 2 kg fat for frying

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 40 minutes

Carnival pastries made from choux pastry

Bring the oil, water, salt, and sugar to a boil in a saucepan. Remove the pan from the heat and add the flour all at once. Mix everything well using the dough hook on a hand mixer. Return the pan to the hot heat and continue mixing until the dough forms a ball. Place the ball of dough in a bowl and immediately beat in one egg using a hand mixer. Let the mixture cool slightly. Beat in the remaining eggs one at a time until the dough is glossy. Mix raisins or apples into the dough, if desired. Scoop out balls with two teaspoons and fry in hot oil or fat until golden brown. Drain and dust with powdered sugar or cinnamon. Makes about 25 balls.
