Rich Poor Knight

Spread the love

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 8 slices white bread or toast, stale
  • 6 tbsp jam or hazelnut spread
  • 375 ml milk
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • ½ pkt. lemon peel, grated
  • 100 g breadcrumbs
  • 100 g butter
  • cinnamon sugar
  • Salt

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 40 minutes

Spread 4 slices of bread with Nutella, then top with the remaining slices. Whisk the milk with the sugar, vanilla sugar, eggs, lemon zest, and salt. Dip the double-decker rolls into the mixture and let them soak up the liquid for a few seconds. Then coat in breadcrumbs. Fry the rich knights in hot butter for about 3 minutes on both sides until golden brown and crispy. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar before serving. Side dish: vanilla sauce, fruit compote. Rich knights are filled in the middle with something like Nutella or jam. Poor knights, on the other hand, are empty inside! This recipe is a great way to use up leftover rolls, toast, slices of bread, etc.
