Romanian Gogosi

Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 500 g flour
  • 1 cube of yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 egg(s)
  • 80 g margarine or butter
  • 250 ml milk, lukewarm
  • 2 packets of vanilla sugar
  • some sugar
  • ½ bottle of sunflower oil for frying

Instructions

Working time approx. 45 minutes; Rest time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 30 minutes

Gogosch, Romanian doughnuts

Dissolve the yeast and sugar in the lukewarm milk. Pour the flour into a bowl and knead the yeast-milk mixture with the egg, salt, and margarine. Form small flatbreads or balls and fry in hot oil until golden brown. Briefly drain on kitchen paper and roll in a mixture of vanilla and powdered sugar. The Gogosi can be filled with whatever your taste desires. Sweet, for example, with chocolate or jam (like Berliners), savory, with feta cheese or fried minced meat (it should be well-seasoned).
