Romanian Pierogi

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 500 g flour
  • 1 tbsp margarine
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 300 ml water
  • 400 g quark
  • 1 egg(s)
  • 50 g sugar
  • 2 tbsp cinnamon
  • salt water
  • Flour for the work surface
  • e.g. melted butter
  • Cinnamon for dusting

Instructions

Working time approx. 1 hour; Cooking/baking time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 15 minutes

For the dough, combine flour, margarine, salt, and water using the dough hook of a hand mixer. Roll out the dough thinly on a well-floured surface and cut into squares. For the filling, combine the quark, egg, sugar, and 2 tablespoons of cinnamon. Spread the filling with a tablespoon in the center of the dough squares. Fold the squares together to form triangles. Place the pierogi in a pot of simmering salted water and cook for 15 minutes. Melt butter, if desired, and drizzle over the pierogi. Sprinkle with cinnamon to serve.
