Rubens – Apple Variety With a Bite

Spread the love

The Rubens is a cross between the tasty varieties Gala and Elstar. The fruit is medium-sized and slightly tall. Rubens has a golden yellow base color and a light red striped top color, its name alludes to the color rubens red.

Origin

Rubens is a cross between Gala and Elstar. She was bred in Italy in 1985.

Season

Rubens is marketed from mid-September to March.

Taste

The crisp, fresh aroma comes from the Elstar, and it owes its pleasant, sweet taste to the Gala.

Use

The Rubens is a very good dessert apple.

Storage

Apples stay fresh, crunchy, and aromatic the longest if they are stored in a cool and dark place. This is also the case with the Rubens variety. The fruit compartment in the refrigerator offers the ideal conditions for storing apples. If apples are kept in a bowl with other types of fruit, the ethylene that apples give off can cause them to wilt more quickly. So if you value a long shelf life for other types of fruit and vegetables, give your apples a place for themselves. A fruit box in the cool basement is of course also a good place to store apples.
