goes well with ice cream – is a good gift
Wash and pit the cherries (only use perfect cherries!). Boil the water and sugar in a saucepan until the sugar has dissolved, stirring occasionally. In the meantime, transfer the cherries to a nice preserving jar or a bottle with a wide neck. Make sure the jar or bottle is heat-resistant so it doesn’t burst when you add the sugar syrup. Pour the sugar syrup into the jar or bottle and add the rum. Stir well and seal the jar, or seal the jar first and shake well. The cherries should steep for at least 3 days before eating. Stored in a cool, dark place, the cherries will keep for about 3 months (if they aren’t eaten beforehand).
