Sauerkraut casserole

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 400 g minced meat, mixed
  • 2 onions
  • 80 g smoked bacon
  • 850 g sauerkraut
  • ½ tsp caraway seeds
  • 1 kg potatoes
  • Milk
  • 425 g tomatoes, peeled, from the can
  • 100 g cream
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tbsp breadcrumbs
  • salt and pepper
  • Margarine or butter
  • Paprika powder

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

With minced meat, mashed potatoes and tomatoes

Peel the potatoes, boil in salted water for 20 minutes, and mash with milk. Dice the onions and fry with the meat in a little fat. Remove from the pan. Fry the bacon and fry the sauerkraut with the caraway seeds. Layer the cabbage and minced meat in a casserole dish. Puree the tomatoes, stir in the cream, eggs, salt, pepper, and paprika, and pour over the meat. Spread the mashed potatoes on top. Sprinkle with breadcrumbs and sprinkle with fat. Bake at 175°C (electric oven) for 45 minutes.
