  • 2 tsp dry yeast
  • 500 g flour
  • 50 g sugar
  • 75 g butter, melted
  • 1 tsp cardamom
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 250 ml milk
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 packets of vanilla sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • powdered sugar
  • Desiccated coconut

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 hour 40 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 2 hours 20 minutes

Dough: In a bowl, mix the milk with the yeast and 1 tablespoon of sugar and let it rise for 10 minutes. In a large bowl, combine the flour, remaining sugar, butter, cardamom and a pinch of salt. Add the yeast milk to the flour mixture and knead for about 5 minutes until a smooth dough forms. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour. Filling: Mix 4 tablespoons of milk with the flour and vanilla sugar. Bring the remaining milk to a boil and slowly pour in the flour-milk mixture while stirring. Bring back to a boil. It should become slightly thick. Now let it cool and carefully stir in the egg yolk. Form small rolls from the dough. Place them on a baking sheet lined with baking paper, make indentations with your fingers and pour the custard into the indentations. Let it rise for another 30 minutes. Then bake in a preheated oven at 200°C for about 8-10 minutes.
