Scientists Tell About an Unexpected Beneficial Property of Caffeine

According to British scientists, regular coffee consumption can reduce the risk of developing a very dangerous, widespread, and very serious disease.

The researchers conducted a study and came to unexpected conclusions about the beneficial properties of caffeine. According to them, regular coffee consumption can reduce the risk of developing Parkinson’s disease.

Parkinson’s disease is a condition in which parts of the brain are gradually damaged over many years. It is caused by the loss of nerve cells in a part of the brain called the substantia nigra, which is responsible for the production of the chemical dopamine. It acts as an intermediary between parts of the brain and nervous system that help control body movements. Disruption of this communication causes problems with involuntary movements.

The researchers conducted a meta-analysis of the literature on dozens of studies by “scanning” electronic databases using terms related to Parkinson’s disease, coffee, and caffeinated foods. Such scientific articles were added to the study only if they met clear diagnostic criteria for the disease and information about the caffeine content in them.

As a result, 13 papers were identified, nine of which were classified as healthy people, and the rest as patients with Parkinson’s disease.

“In healthy people who regularly consumed caffeine, the risk of developing the disease during follow-up assessment was significantly lower,” the researchers emphasized.
