Peeling hazelnuts – made easy
- Hazelnuts must first be roasted so that the thin shell comes off more easily.
- Spread the nuts on a baking sheet and put them in the oven preheated to 175 degrees. There, the neck nuts roast until the shell bursts open a little. This usually takes about 10 to 12 minutes.
- You can alternatively roast the nuts in a pan instead of in the oven. To do this, heat the nuts without fat. If the shell has split open a little, let the nuts cool down a bit. While still warm, place them on a tea towel and wrap the nuts in it.
- Rub the nuts together in the towel, they will shell themselves from the friction.
- If some hazelnuts are not shell-free after this procedure, sort them out and roast them a little more.
- Afterward, these specimens should also be able to be peeled with the cloth trick.
