Roast Hazelnuts – That’s How It Works

Step 1: Roast the hazelnuts

  1. Take a nutcracker and scoop the hazelnuts out of their shells.
  2. If you don’t have a nutcracker handy, you can also try it carefully with a hammer.
  3. Place the hazelnuts side by side on a baking sheet and preheat the oven to 140-160 degrees.
  4. Use top/bottom heat and, if desired, a piece of baking paper.
  5. Roast the hazelnuts in the oven for 10 minutes. Turn the hazelnuts once or twice.

Step 2: Skin the roasted hazelnuts

  1. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and cover it with a towel.
  2. If you wait a few minutes for the baking tray to cool down, the hazelnuts can be easily skinned.
  3. For example, you can put the hazelnuts in a sieve or towel and rub them together.
  4. Tip: If the skin still cannot be removed as desired, you can put the hazelnuts back in the oven for a few minutes.
  5. You can eat the roasted nuts straight away or chop them up and add them to your muesli.
