Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 500 g beef
  • 3 onions
  • 2 tbsp spice mix, (Berbere) Ethiopian
  • 200 g tomato paste
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • n. B. ginger powder
  • salt and pepper
  • oil
  • some water

Instructions

Working time approx. 25 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 25 minutes

Ethiopian meat sauce with beef

First, finely chop the onions and fry them in a pan with a little oil until browned. Add the berbere, mix it with the onions, and fry briefly. Now add the crushed or chopped garlic and the tomato paste with a little water, and let everything simmer for about 15 minutes. Then add the beef to the sauce and simmer covered over low heat for about 1 hour, until the meat is cooked through. Finally, season with salt, pepper, and ginger powder, if desired. Serve with injera.
