Ingredients

  • 1 Glass Coconut milk
  • 1 Splash Lemon juice
  • 1 piece Ginger
  • 1 tsp Agave syrup
  • 0,5 tsp Spirulina Algae Powder (E3 Live Blue)

Instructions

  • As soon as the hype about the green matcha latte has subsided, the new trendy drink is making the rounds on Instagram. The special thing about it: It is blue. And everyone is crazy about the smurf latte or 'smurf latte'. The hipster drink is served in the Australian 'Matcha Mylkbar' in Melbourne. The drink does not owe its blue color to blueberries, but to the spirulina algae, which is processed into powder. The makers won't reveal the exact recipe. We tried the smurf latte once.
  • First heat the coconut milk. Then grate the ginger (a piece about 3 cm thick) on a fine grater. Then squeeze the juice out of the grated ginger into the coconut milk. So there are no ginger threads floating in the drink. Add agave syrup and lemon juice. Then the powder of the spirulina alga is added and the whole thing is frothed with a milk frother. Slowly add the powder to get the color you want.
  • The amount of lemon juice, ginger and agave syrup depends on whether you want the Smurf Latte to be more sour, spicy or sweet. Here, too, you should approach with small amounts and then add a little more if necessary.
  • Unfortunately, we could not find out what the red powder on the milk foam was. It appears to be a trade secret. If you have any idea what that could be, feel free to write it in the comments.
