Soup Meat: How Long it Needs to Cook to Be Quite Tender

Soup meat: how long should it cook?

It is not easy to answer how long soup meat has to cook to be done. Depending on the consistency and size of the piece of meat, the preparation time can vary. You can then use the meat as an ingredient in a potato and carrot soup, for example.

  • As a rule of thumb, about 1.5 to 2 hours of cooking time are required per kilogram of meat. Then the meat should be done.
  • However, the older the animal was, the leaner and sinewy the meat, and the longer it can take until it is actually edible.
  • Check if the meat is already tender, preferably with a fork or knife. If you can easily pierce it without resisting, it’s done.
  • If you want your soup meat to be very tender, let it stand for about 10 to 20 minutes once the meat is already tender.
  • To make your meat taste better and make it a little softer in consistency, add a halved onion to the cooking water. Just cook the onion with it.
  • Tip: If there are still bones on the meat, you can also boil the bones.
