sweet and spicy, a great sauce for poultry and rice dishes
To make this sweet and spicy orange sauce, first pour the orange juice into a saucepan and simmer for about 10 minutes. Peel the orange, chop it very finely, and add it. While the juice is simmering, mix the (cold!) water and flour together until there are as few lumps as possible. This works best in a shaker, but a whisk and bowl will do in a pinch. Add the flour mixture a teaspoon at a time to the boiling juice, stirring vigorously with a whisk until the desired consistency is reached. Finally, add a tablespoon of sambal oelek to the sauce. Depending on your taste, the sauce can be seasoned with fresh herbs, salt, or honey. The sauce goes very well with rice and poultry such as chicken or turkey.
