Steak with crispy onions

Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 1 vegetable onion(s)
  • 1 large egg(s)
  • 50 g wheat flour
  • 50 g panko
  • 5 tbsp rapeseed oil for frying
  • 2 pork neck steaks
  • e.g. salt and pepper
  • 2 pinches of hot paprika powder

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 35 minutes

Peel the onion and cut into rings about 1 cm wide. Use only the outer, larger rings. Season the rings with salt and pepper. Whisk the egg in a deep plate. Add the flour and panko to 2 deep plates. First coat the onion rings in flour, then dip them in the egg and then coat them in the panko. Fry in a pan with about 3 tablespoons of oil. Drain any excess fat on kitchen paper. Meanwhile, heat 2 tablespoons of rapeseed oil in a pan. Season the steaks with salt and pepper and fry for 4-5 minutes on each side. Sprinkle the steaks with paprika and serve with the crispy onion rings. Serve with baked potatoes or baked vegetables and herb butter.
