If necessary, cut the dried fruit into bite-sized pieces and soak in 300 ml water for about 2 hours. Heat the milk to lukewarm. Combine the flour with 50 g butter, egg, and salt in a mixing bowl. Crumble the yeast, dissolve it in the lukewarm milk with 1 tablespoon of sugar, and add this to the mixing bowl. Knead into a smooth dough. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 20 minutes. Knead the yeast dough with floured hands and form 4 equal-sized dumplings. Let rise for another 20 minutes on a floured work surface. Bring 125 ml milk, 30 g butter, and 1 tablespoon of sugar to a boil in a covered, non-stick saucepan. Add the yeast dumplings, cover, and steam over low heat for about 15-20 minutes until tender. Cover the dried fruit in the soaking water with the cinnamon stick and the sugar (except for one tablespoon) and simmer over low heat for 10 minutes. Remove the cinnamon stick. Remove the dumplings and serve with the dried fruit. If you like, sprinkle some more cinnamon sugar on top. We always serve them with soup first.
