Spätzle with potatoes and bacon cubes

Peel the potatoes and cut into small cubes. Bring plenty of lightly salted water to a boil in two pots. Cook the spaetzle and potato cubes separately and drain. Melt plenty of butter in a large pot and briefly fry the bacon cubes. Then add the cooked spaetzle and potatoes and mix thoroughly. Croutons go perfectly with this dish. Cut the toast into cubes. Heat butter in a pan and toast the bread in it. If you like buttermilk, it’s a great drink to accompany this dish. This simple and hearty recipe used to be a common dish at home. My mother got it from her grandmother. We also liked to call it “poor people’s food.” It’s inexpensive and very filling.
