Store Arugula Correctly – This is How it Works

Keep rocket – that’s how it works

A fresh salad is far better than one that is several days old. But if you have stored the rocket properly, it will still taste fresh after several days.

  • Cleaning: If you only washed and cleaned the part you ate, now clean the part you want to save. To do this, take some lukewarm water and rinse the lettuce. You can use a salad spinner to dry the rocket.
  • Remove: The next step is to remove any yellow spots on the leaf stems and yellow leaves. To do this, take a pair of sharp scissors and cut off the affected areas at a slight angle.
  • Tip: Only cut out the yellow parts, leaving the remaining leaves untouched on the stems. Only when you are preparing the salad for the next meal do you remove the stems.
  • Packing: Once the arugula has been drained and cleaned of the yellow spots, you can pack it. Freezer bags and plastic containers are particularly suitable for this. Be sure to use containers that you can seal airtight. Pack the lettuce loosely and loosely in the containers to avoid crushing it.
  • Storage: Then put the container or bag in the refrigerator or in a dark and cold place in your basement. You have to make sure that the lettuce is not squeezed by other foods, otherwise, bruises will appear – this is where the lettuce becomes soft and no longer tastes fresh.
  • Note: only leave the arugula for a few days before eating. Depending on how long it has been in the supermarket, the shelf life can vary greatly. It is, therefore, better to eat the salad within the next few days, then it will still taste fresh.
