Store Avocados Correctly – This Is How It Works

Store ripe and opened avocados correctly

  • You can store a ripe avocado in the fridge for about a week. The temperature should be at least 6 degrees.
  • If the avocado has already been cut open, the outer part will quickly turn brown. You can easily remove this or prevent discoloration with a little lemon juice.
  • If you wrap the remaining avocado in cling film or put it in an airtight container, it will keep a little longer.
  • If the stone is still in the other half of the avocado, you don’t necessarily have to remove it. This also slows down the aging process.

Store unripe avocados correctly – this is how it works

  • If the avocado is not yet ripe, you should not put the fruit in the refrigerator. This slows down the ripening process. Storage in a newspaper or a paper bag is beneficial.
  • If you want to speed up the process, you can also put an apple or banana in the bag. The fruits give off gases that speed up the ripening process.
  • The optimal storage temperature for unripe avocados is 18 to 24 degrees Celsius.
