Store Spices Correctly – The Best Tips

If you’re one of those people who keep their spices near their stove, you should be careful. Because next to the stove it is usually much too warm.

Cool and dry – that’s what spices like best

Spices should be stored away from light and in a cool place. A specially designed spice cabinet is perfect, for example. However, if you don’t have enough space, you can easily store the spices in the general pantry. However, there are a few things to watch out for.

  • Never keep spices near the stove. If you cook something and the moist steam moves into the spice cabinet, it could spoil the herbs. So choose a kitchen cabinet that is far enough away.
  • Store-bought spices should never remain in their plastic packaging. Plastic simply does not offer sufficient aroma protection for the spice.
  • As an alternative, you can, for example, wash an old jam jar well and then store the spices in it. But many people also like the very trendy pressure lock glasses. Since these are often sold with a rubber ring for better closure, super aromatic spices can be stored here. You can also label the jars with chalkboard paint and write on them which spice is inside.
  • It must never get too warm for spices, as this would cause them to lose valuable aromas. Besides the above places to store spices, it is also possible for you to freeze the herbs.
  • Simply pack the fresh spices in an ice cube tray and pour either water or oil over them. So you can quickly throw the cubes in a soup or in a pan and have the herbs at hand.
