Substitutes for Oat Bran: These Alternatives Are Suitable

Finding substitutes for oat bran is not always easy. It’s especially difficult when you’re looking for substitutes that are said to have similar flavor and properties to oat bran.

Substitute for oat bran – these alternatives are suitable

While you can use similar products as substitutes for oat bran , they often taste different. For example, if you rely on muffins that have the characteristic, mild, nutty taste of oat bran, you should not use any alternatives.

  • Corn bran is a mild-tasting alternative that also contains few carbohydrates. You can use the corn bran for muffins, granola, and granola bars.
  • Rice bran is also a suitable substitute, which is a by-product of rice milling processes. Rice bran is gluten free. You can replace it in 1:1 ratio. You can easily use rice bran in bread. Note, however, that due to the lack of gluten, baked goods tend to crumble.
  • Oatmeal is very closely related to oat bran. This is because oat bran is the outer layer of the oat grain that is left over when oats are processed. You can also use oats in a 1:1 ratio. It is better if you use a blender to make oatmeal. This binds the water better than oats, which tend to leave liquid behind.
  • Chia seeds and wheat bran are two other ways to substitute for oat bran. You can use the products in smoothies, muffins and pancakes. With chia seeds, you should be careful with the dosage the first time, as the seeds have a different taste than the oat bran.
  • Flea seed shells are also suitable as a substitute, but should be used sparingly. They hold more water than oat bran and have different properties, especially when it comes to baking.
