Replacing maple syrup: alternatives at a glance

Maple syrup is a popular sweetener. If you don’t have one in the house, you can replace it with the following alternatives:

  • Honey : Honey is one of the oldest sweeteners. Use the same amount of honey to replace the maple syrup. For solid honey to have a liquid consistency, heat the sweetener in a saucepan or in the microwave.
  • Stevia : Stevia is a sugar substitute that contains no calories. Always observe the information on the packaging. These provide information on how much sweetener should be used.
  • Apple pulp : Apple pulp contains a lot of sugar and can therefore also replace maple syrup. About 100 grams of the sweetener replaces the syrup. However, if you don’t like apple flavor, this alternative is less suitable for you.
  • Coconut blossom sugar : Coconut blossom sugar contains not only sugar but also a few vitamins. If you want to replace the maple syrup, you should make sure that the coconut blossom sugar has a caramel and malty taste that not everyone likes.
  • Sugar : Maple syrup can also be easily replaced with table sugar. Use roughly the same amount. It is best to use your own taste as a guide.
  • Agave nectar : ​​Agave nectar makes a good substitute for maple syrup. Replace about 120 grams of maple syrup with 100 grams of the agave syrup. Note that agave nectar is very sweet and consists almost entirely of fructose. Fructose is less good for your health as it causes blood sugar levels to rise sharply.
