Substitute for sugar beet syrup – these possibilities exist
Sugar beet syrup has a natural sweetness that is perfect as a spread or for baking cakes. If you don’t have any syrup at hand, the following products can be used as a substitute:
- Maple syrup is a very good substitute for sugar beet syrup. It has a similar consistency. But beware: maple syrup is not always as pleasantly sweet as syrup from sugar beet, but also tastes tart. To be on the safe side, test the taste before use.
- Molasses is also used as a sweetener. The dark brown, viscous syrup is a by-product of the production of sugar cane. It even contains vitamin C.
- You can also use agave syrup. However, you should use a little less of it than sugar beet syrup, as it is even sweeter than normal household sugar.
- If you don’t have any syrup or similar at home, you can simply use honey. Like most syrups, this has a rather viscous consistency and tastes naturally sweet.
