Sweet barley groats

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 liter of milk, or rice milk, soy milk or water
  • 200 g groats (barley)
  • 2 handfuls of raisins
  • 50 g nuts or almonds, chopped
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp butter

Instructions

Working time approx. 5 minutes; Rest time approx. 5 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 25 minutes

Bring the milk to a boil, stir in the barley groats, raisins, nuts, and sugar, and simmer over low heat for about 15 minutes. Or simmer for 5 minutes and then let it swell in a warm place. Stir in the butter. Serve hot with compote, or cold with applesauce or compote. Serve with cinnamon sugar. It also tastes delicious hot with brown sugar and a dollop of butter.
