Tamarind Chili Dip

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 4 shallots
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 2 tsp chili pepper(s), fresh red (chopped)
  • 1 tbsp oil (sesame oil)
  • ¼ cup tamarind paste
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • some lime or lemon juice

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

goes well with grilled food, fondue, raclette, etc.

First, peel and finely chop the shallots and garlic. Then, heat the sesame oil in a wok or large frying pan, add the shallots and garlic, and stir over low heat for two minutes. Add the chopped chili pepper and fry for about 30 seconds. Then, add the tamarind paste and sugar and bring to a boil. Stir vigorously, then simmer for 5 minutes. If desired, you can add a little more lime or lemon juice.
