Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 100 g rice
  • 1 kg minced meat, mixed
  • 4 onions
  • 2 carrots
  • 200 ml vegetable stock
  • tbsp, leveled cornstarch
  • some tomato paste
  • salt and pepper
  • n. B. Oil
  • Water (salt water)

Working time approx. 40 minutes; Total time approx. 40 minutes

Russian meatballs

Pre-cook the rice in salted water and chill. Finely chop half of the onions in a food processor and knead them with the minced meat and rice. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Form the mixture into small meatballs and fry them in a heated pan with oil. Finely dice the remaining onions and sauté them in a pan with a little oil (over medium heat). Grate the carrots and add them to the onions. Stir the cornstarch into the vegetable stock (best when it’s cold and using a whisk). Add the vegetable stock and tomato paste to the pot and season with salt and pepper. Add the meatballs and simmer over low heat for about 15 minutes until tender. Mashed potatoes make the best side dish, but pasta is also delicious.
