Test Water Quality: These Options Are Available

Test water quality – by self-test

A simple and quick variant is the self-test. You can do it yourself without any problems and then evaluate it. You can read which sets are suitable for this here:

  • With the Watersafe drinking water test, you can easily examine your water for the ten most common impurities and components of the water. These include, for example, bacteria, nitrates, nitrites, or the pH value. You will also receive information about the level of water hardness and chlorine content. You carry out the test using the operating instructions and then determine the results yourself.
  • The drinking water test from AquaNatura is also suitable for independently examining the water quality. Hold the test strips in the water to be tested and then use the enclosed slips and comparison tables to obtain the decisive values. The test examines your water for a total of 13 criteria, including, for example, an examination for copper and iron.
  • Lead in particular is a dangerous additive and is found in water in some regions. So that you know whether there is lead in your water and how high the concentration is, you can carry out a special water test for lead. However, this is not a self-test in the true sense, as the evaluation is carried out by a specialist laboratory: you take the water sample and send it in. You will receive a result in just a few days.
  • As an alternative to the above methods, you can also get a test strip from the pharmacy. In most cases, however, only a few criteria, which are decisive for drinking water, in particular, are examined. These tests are not particularly suitable for more precise and complex investigations.

Test water quality – with professional analysis

If you don’t like the self-tests or you want to get accurate results, you should leave the analysis to a professional laboratory. Note that the accuracy of the results here also depends on how carefully you took the water sample.

  • You can order a wide variety of water tests on the test-wasser.de website. You have a large choice between drinking water, well water, or a complete test. You can also test your water for legionella or special tolerance for babies. You must choose a test, receive the kit and fill out a sample. After this sample has been analyzed, detailed results will be sent to you.
  • You can also request a water analysis via the asserted-online.de website. After ordering you will receive a set in which you can fill the sample. In the laboratory, the water is examined for heavy metals and its compatibility with infants is tested. The results will be sent to you by email.
  • It will be more expensive if you request a test from the health department or contact a special laboratory. In both cases, professional testers will be sent to you, who will then take the relevant samples and possibly test them on-site or, depending on the accuracy, in the laboratory. The health department itself does not test your water quality but commissions the appropriate companies to do so after contacting you.
  • The wasserschnelltest.de website also offers a good and professional test of your water quality. In addition, you have the choice of whether you want to take the samples yourself, whether it should be carried out by a specialist from the partner company or by your employees. You can also choose between different tests and choose the one that suits your intentions. After the sample has been taken, you will receive the results within a few days.

Test water quality – general information and tips

In addition to the various test options, we also give you some tips and general information here:

  • Only take the water if you know the exact procedure. The instructions provided are a good guide and should be used accordingly.
  • If you take the samples differently than specified, you may falsify the results. The right steps in the right order are particularly important when examining the lead content.
  • If you, as a tenant, suspect that your water is being polluted by the house pipes, you can speak to your landlord about it. He or she will then have an appropriate test carried out.
  • You can also order the test yourself, but you should clarify the question of costs with the landlord in advance. The latter is not obliged to bear the costs for this, but many landlords agree to a test and the costs.
