Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 pack of dumpling dough (Thuringian dumplings), approx. 750 g
  • 1 pack of raw ham cubes, approx. 125 g
  • 1 cup whipped cream, approx. 200 g
  • ½ cup of sour cream or crème fraîche, approx. 100 g or approx. 75 g
  • 250 ml milk or more, depending on the size of the casserole dish
  • 2 tsp beef broth powder
  • 150 g Gouda, Edam or grated cheese
  • 50 g butter
  • salt and pepper
  • Nutmeg, freshly grated

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour

Form the dumpling dough into walnut-sized dumplings. Grease a baking dish with butter and arrange the dumplings in a single layer. The dumplings should cover the bottom of the dish. Grate the nutmeg over the dumplings and sprinkle the diced ham over them. Mix the whipped cream, sour cream or crème fraîche, milk, stock powder, pepper, and salt well and pour over the dumplings until they are completely covered. Top up with more milk if necessary. Sprinkle the cheese, thinly sliced ​​or coarsely grated, over the dumplings until completely covered and sprinkle with butter flakes. Bake in an oven preheated to 180°C (top/bottom heat) for about 25-30 minutes on the middle rack, until the cheese forms a nice golden brown crust. Serve with fresh salad.
