Toasted bread – using leftovers like my great-grandmother did

Spread the love

Ingredients for 3 servings:

  • 6 slice(s) of bread, whether rye or mixed bread
  • some oil for frying
  • e.g. cream cheese, sausage, egg salad, herb butter…

Instructions

Working time approx. 5 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 5 minutes; Total time approx. 10 minutes

nice and crispy and super fast

Heat a little oil in a pan, fry two slices of bread on each side until crispy brown, and place them on a serving plate. As soon as all the slices are done, serve with herb curd or other spreads or toppings of your choice. Your imagination is the limit. The toasted bread tastes best warm, but it’s also delicious cold. My great-grandmother used to simply toast the slices on the cleaned and greased burner of her old kitchen coal stove.
