Traditional Apple Crumble

Spread the love

Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 8 m.-sized apples
  • 90 g sugar, fine (caster)
  • 1 lemon(s), grated peel
  • 120 g butter
  • 125 g flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • Double cream, for garnishing

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

Preheat oven to 180°C (top/bottom heat). Peel, core, halve, and roughly chop the apples. Place them in a baking dish and toss with 2 tablespoons of the sugar and the grated lemon zest. Sprinkle 40g of the butter in small pieces over the top. Knead the remaining butter into the flour, add the remaining sugar and cinnamon, and mix well to form a crumble. If you like a large crumble, you can add 1-2 tablespoons of water at this point. Spoon the crumble over the apples. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for about 60-75 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the juices are bubbling around the edges. Serve with double cream, whipped cream, or vanilla ice cream.
