Ingredients for 4 servings:
- 600 g beef, from the leg, thinly sliced
- 600 g onion(s), roughly diced
- 2 garlic cloves
- salt and pepper
- Paprika powder, sweet
Instructions
Working time approx. 1 hour; Cooking/baking time approx. 45 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 45 minutes
Cut the beef into thin slices and pound them until they are very thin, like roulade meat. Season the flattened slices on both sides with salt, pepper, and paprika. Brown the meat briefly in a casserole dish over high heat and then remove from the heat. Roughly dice the onions and finely dice the garlic cloves, and sauté both in the casserole dish over medium heat. They should not brown. Add the meat and a little water and simmer with the lid closed for 40 minutes. Turn the meat occasionally and ensure there is always some liquid in the casserole dish. When the meat is tender, season with salt and pepper. If there is too much liquid in the pan, reduce it with the lid open and increase the heat slightly until it reaches the desired consistency. This includes mashed potatoes. Note: Although it is called onion schnitzel, it is made from beef and is a braised dish like onion meat. 225 kcal per serving.
