Egyptian dessert
Separate the puff pastry sheets, let them thaw briefly, and bake them side by side on a baking sheet in a preheated oven at 180°C until golden yellow. Then let them cool and tear them into pieces (similar to Kaiserschmarrn). Place half of the puff pastry in a greased, ovenproof dish, spread the filling ingredients on top, and cover with the remaining puff pastry pieces, making a total of about 2 cm thick. Heat the milk, add the sugar, and stir until dissolved. Pour the still-hot milk over the puff pastry. Let the mixture stand for about 10 minutes to swell, then place it in the preheated oven (180°C) and bake for about 20 minutes until the surface is golden brown. Let it cool and serve with tea. Umm Ali (in English: Ali’s mother) is popular with locals and tourists alike and is easy to prepare.
