Using Dates – The Best Recipes

Use dates as a natural sweetener

With dates, like honey, you can naturally sweeten them and thus avoid refined sugar. This is healthier and easier for your body to process.

  • You probably know the classic quark-oil dough, which you can use to form small rolls.
  • You can sweeten it with dates instead of sugar.
  • You need 250g of flour type 1050, 120g of dried dates, 150g of low-fat quark, 1/2 sachet of baking powder, some cinnamon to taste, a pinch of salt, and 3 tablespoons of rapeseed oil.
  • If you want the batter to be a little fluffier, just use more baking powder.
  • First, you need to prepare the dates. To do this, cut them in half and then stone them. Then put them in a heat-resistant container and pour about 80ml of boiling water over the dates.
  • When the fruit has completely absorbed the water, chop them either with a hand blender or in a stand mixer.
  • Then put all the ingredients in a bowl and mix them into a dough. This should be elastic and fluffy.
  • Form small balls of dough and place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  • After 15 minutes at 180°C, you can take out the quark rolls, let them cool down and then eat them.

Recipe for dates with bacon

Combining something sweet with something salty has long been a staple. The two components usually balance each other out perfectly and ensure excellent enjoyment.

  • Just grab a packet of dates and a packet of bacon.
  • Then wrap the dates in the bacon.
  • Then all you have to do is stick a toothpick through the date so that the bacon does not come loose.
  • The dates taste best from the grill. Alternatively, you can also use the grill function of your oven or a grill pan with grooves.
  • For extra flavor, we recommend filling the dates with cream cheese or a delicious feta cream beforehand.

Dates as a dip

The dates are also ideal as a dip. It is particularly suitable as an opponent to chili.

  • You need 100g of pitted dates, 1/2 bunch of spring onions, 1 chili pepper (or whatever you like), 1 cup of sour cream, 200g of cream cheese, and a pinch of salt.
  • Place the trimmed spring onions in a food processor along with the chili to chop both.
  • Now add all the remaining ingredients except for the salt and mix well.
  • Finally, all you have to do is season the dip with salt. This is also where you decide whether you want to add more spices.
  • You can also use the dip as a spread on bread. Let it steep just a little so that the flavor intensifies.
