Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 125 g butter
  • 4 eggs, separated
  • 200 g whole wheat flour
  • 125 ml cream or milk
  • 125 ml water
  • 1 pinch of sea salt
  • e.g. cheese or salami or ham, cut into cubes
  • e.g. vanilla or cinnamon
  • e.g. honey, applesauce

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 50 minutes

This waffle can be prepared and eaten savory or sweet. First, cream the butter until fluffy, then add the salt and egg yolk. Stir in the whole-wheat flour, milk, and water alternately. Finally, fold in the beaten egg whites. Bake in batches in the waffle iron. For a savory version, add small cubes of cheese, salami, or ham to the batter. For a sweet version, spread honey or applesauce on the freshly baked waffle, and season with vanilla or cinnamon if desired. This is truly a wonderfully fluffy waffle!
