You shouldn’t eat this while pregnantly
The main reason why you should avoid certain foods and foods when you are pregnant is that you are concerned about infection with toxoplasmosis or listeriosis. - You can continue to eat fruit and raw vegetables as well as salads and herbs without hesitation. However, packaged salads and pieces of fruit as well as raw sprouts and seedlings are not recommended.
- Milk and dairy products made from pasteurized milk are also allowed during pregnancy. These include, for example, yogurt, quark, mozzarella and feta, cream cheese, or processed cheese. Always buy the dairy products packaged or have hard cheese cut up fresh at the counter. Don’t eat cheese rind. Caution is advised with raw milk cheese and other raw milk products. For the sake of your child, avoid blue cheese and sour milk cheese. You should also be careful with soft ice cream.
- You can eat hard-boiled eggs without hesitation, products or dishes with half-raw eggs should be avoided due to the risk of salmonella.
- Be careful not to eat raw or semi-raw fish. Smoked fish should also not be on the menu during pregnancy.
- The same applies to raw and undercooked meat and raw or undercooked types of sausage and ham. Fried or grilled fish and meat products are perfectly fine.
- You should avoid open salads or antipasti in restaurants or canteens.
- Forest and wild mushrooms can be contaminated with heavy metals such as cadmium or mercury.
- Therefore, they should only be eaten in moderation.
- You can also drink smoothies, fruit juices, and other juices. Just make sure you don’t eat too much as they are very high in sugar.

- Coffee is also a popular luxury food. Too much caffeine during pregnancy can lead to reduced birth weight in the child. However, up to three cups of 150 ml, a day is fine. This also applies to black tea and green tea.
- Energy drinks are not recommended, as they contain more caffeine than coffee and many additional, questionable ingredients.
Tips on handling food and kitchen hygiene
There are a few things to keep in mind when handling your food, especially during pregnancy.
- Always use fresh ingredients and always prepare the food as soon as possible after shopping.
- Critical foods should be heated to 70 degrees for at least two minutes to kill any germs and bacteria.
- Always keep raw meat away from other foods and wash dishes and cutlery that have come into contact with raw foods thoroughly.
- Dishcloths and tea towels should always be washed at least 60 degrees.
