Lard is a real superfood, a source of valuable fatty acids. And if you don’t eat lard because you’re afraid of an excess of bad cholesterol, you can safely take it out of the freezer, nutritionist Natalia Samoilenko wrote on Instagram. The expert also told us how to eat lard to make it the most useful for the body.

How much lard can you eat per day?

Samoilenko debunked the myth that a significant amount of cholesterol enters the body with lard. According to her, this statement is “too exaggerated and even incorrect.”

“When you consume 20-30 g of lard per day (the recommended amount), 30 mg of cholesterol enters the body. For people with normal health, the permissible daily dose of cholesterol is 300 mg, and for those who have had a heart attack or stroke – up to 200 mg,” the expert explained.

Samoilenko added that eating 30 g of lard per day will not only not raise cholesterol levels, but will burn them.

What is the best way to eat lard?

It is best to eat lard in salted or pickled form, as other cooking options (smoking, frying) will not benefit your health.

Lard contains many vitamins and minerals, namely: A, B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, and D, as well as calcium, zinc, phosphorus, iron, magnesium, and selenium.

Lard contains omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, which are essential for the formation of membranes around neurons and counteracting inflammation.

Lard contains choline, which is a B-complex vitamin involved in metabolism. Eating lard has a beneficial effect on blood vessels and cell membranes because it contains lecithin.

The product also contains arachidonic acid. Since the human body does not synthesize it in sufficient quantities, it is necessary to take it in with food.

“Eat lard in the morning or at lunchtime, at this time, in addition, to using substances, the body will also receive a powerful energy boost,” Samoilenko advised.

Who shouldn’t eat lard?

“If you have problems with cardiovascular disease, you should give up salted lard, eat fresh or freshly frozen lard in small quantities on the recommendation of your doctor,” the nutritionist summarized.
