made from almond brittle, it doesn’t always have to be gingerbread
For the almond brittle, thoroughly knead the listed ingredients into a smooth dough and refrigerate for 1 hour. During this time, create a template from regular paper. This is where your inner architect comes in. You’ll need two baked building materials (two triangles for the front and back), two long rectangles (for the roof), and a base plate large enough to perhaps leave room for a front garden. Keep in mind that the two roof sides should be a tiny bit (about 0.2 or 0.3 cm) longer than the edge of the front and back roofs, so that the roof is closed at the top and there are no gaps in the ridge. As a template, you only need to cut a triangle and a rectangle out of paper (and then use them twice). Roll out the base plate from the remaining dough (measure here and calculate whether the base plate is large enough for your house). If you haven’t planned too big, you’ll still have dough left over for a chimney and a fence. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface with a floured rolling pin to a thickness of about 0.4 cm. Place your homemade paper template on the dough, then cut the dough along the outline with a knife. Bake in a preheated oven at 175°C for about 15 minutes, then bake on a baking sheet lined with baking paper (careful not to bake too dark or too black). Remove pieces from the baking sheet and let them cool on a flat surface. Then sift the powdered sugar into a bowl. Beat the egg whites in another bowl until stiff, then gradually stir the egg whites into the powdered sugar. The mixture should barely run and should form “roads” when stirred. Transfer the mixture to a piping bag fitted with a nozzle. Pipe icing onto the almond brittle along the edges and assemble, supporting it with books if necessary. Finally, spread or pipe icing on one side of any sweets you like and place them on the house. With a little skill, you can also mold icicles from cast iron. The roof ridge can also be decorated with a “layer of snow.”
